RCF Business Music Integrates Design and Acoustics at Lecco Hostel

Lecco, Italy - Lecco Hostel is conveniently located just a few steps from Lake Como, offering easy access to nearby Alpine peaks. The hostel provides 115 beds across 27 rooms with private bathrooms, coworking spaces, meeting rooms, an outdoor garden, and a dining area.

Managed by Ristogest group, the Billis restaurant, located on the ground floor, is recognized for its fusion of Tuscan and American cuisine, offering gourmet dishes, burgers made with fresh ingredients, and an extensive selection of beers and beverages. The restaurant required a modern audio system that would deliver uniform, high-quality sound without compromising the aesthetic appeal of the interior design. Architect Andrea Peruffo coordinated the project, selecting RCF's Business Music solutions for the audio installation.

System design and commissioning were handled by Labirinti Acustici under the supervision of owner and acoustician Enrico Ricciardi: “We initially reviewed several brands of loudspeakers and amplifiers. Yuri Casi, RCF’s sales manager for installed sound solutions in Italy, recommended testing the new DMA amplifiers.” Ricciardi stated, “We found these amplifiers compact, powerful, and user-friendly with RDNet software. Since RCF also provided dedicated presets for the MR series loudspeakers, which we had already successfully installed elsewhere, we conducted listening tests. The sound was excellent and ideal for the hostel’s environment. Given the outstanding support from the manufacturer, our decision was straightforward.”

The installation includes 14 MR 40T two-way loudspeakers, an S 12 subwoofer, a DMA 162 digital matrix amplifier, and two additional DMA 162P amplifiers connected via BUS. The MR 40T loudspeakers feature a 4-inch woofer and a 1-inch dome tweeter, designed for balanced near-field sound reproduction and excellent intelligibility. Their elegant, compact design is ideal for installations on walls or concrete ceilings where recessed ceiling speakers are not feasible. The S 12 subwoofer, featuring a 12-inch woofer, provides rich and accurate low-frequency response, enhancing the overall audio experience.

The DMA 162 digital matrix amplifier is a two-channel, class-D device with robust DSP capabilities for flexible input/output management, equalization, FIR filtering, and proprietary algorithms for system optimization and protection. Its scalable architecture and RDNet control compatibility make it suitable for diverse commercial audio applications. The additional DMA 162P amplifiers, also two-channel class-D devices, were integrated to increase overall power and support multi-room audio distribution, ensuring consistent coverage throughout the restaurant.

Architect Andrea Peruffo commented: “The versatility and discreet design of the RCF loudspeakers blend seamlessly with the restaurant’s interior, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Labirinti Acustici’s design meets our needs perfectly, supporting both background music applications and higher-volume scenarios for events and celebrations.”
