RCF UK reports best PLASA Show ever

All the stars aligned for RCF UK at this year’s PLASA Show in London, resulting in what head of the UK operation, Dean Davoile, described as “our best PLASA showing ever”.

As one of only two companies to occupy a dedicated sound demo room, RCF were able to drive traffic upstairs from their ground floor booth—and this was certainly a winning formula. “Whether it was a stroke of absolute genius or pure luck, everything just worked, and often visitors were struggling to get into the demo room,” he said.

Once inside, they were able to sample RCF’s new NXL 14-A with SUB 15-AX 15in bass reflex cab and NX 932-A active full range speaker and SUB 18-AX (portable 18in) combinations and also specifically the new TT+ AUDIO GTX10, paired for the first time with the new GTS 19G (1 x19in) ground-stackable subwoofer.

Demonstrations took place every 30 minutes, in an automated display programmed and choreographed by TT+ AUDIO Business Development Manager, Andy Magee—who brought all his experience and expertise as a FOH engineer into play. This kept visitors—sometimes as many as 40 at a time—thronging into the room.

After an introduction about the company’s 75-year history, the presentation across three video screens was made by RCF product specialist and engineer, Lucio Boiardi Serri (who had been videoed by Magee himself).

Active content ran for 18 minutes of each 30-minute presentation, and for the remaining 12 there would be background music.

Attendees, according to Dean Davoile, had largely fallen into three groups. “It was a complete cross section of customers,” he said, “those we already knew; users who were not direct accounts but were familiar with the brand, and others who had never used the brand but knew [sound companies that did] which piqued their interest.”

Of the systems demoed, Davoile drew particular attention to the active, compact NXL14-A  (dual 6in woofers, and 1.7in HF driver),  which excited both the DJ and corporate AV communities. This, and the brand new NX 932-A, attracted considerable interest.

Of the TT+ AUDIO GTX 10 (showcasing the new similar footprint single 19in GTS 19G sub) Davoile admits, “While the system delivery was technically too powerful for the room, it was important to showcase it in its ground stack format. It was gratifying that a number of visitors we spoke to had already seen and heard the GTX 10 system out in the field.”

Reflecting on the show, Dean Davoile said, “We have already written new business at PLASA, especially on smaller kit like the NXL 14-A, while we have at least a dozen positive new leads to potential customers looking to move up to the next level with GTX.”
